Graham

Graham Smith

Graham joined Odin’s Revenge in Autumn 2023 bringing with him a lifetime of experience. Unfortunately, most of it’s in accountancy so its not been a great deal of use to the band!

As a teenager Graham grew up listening what became known as the New Wave of British Heavy Metal in the late 70’s and early 80’s. Following Bands such as Saxon, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and most significantly Motorhead who became a massive influence on his musical tastes. Prompted by love of the music he decided to take up bass and joined a couple of bands which unfortunately never really went anywhere and he more or less gave up playing as he went away to University but remained in touch with the music.

Roll on 30 years, much of his hair had already fallen out under its own weight, his hearing had at least partially recovered from umpteen Motorhead gigs and his bass playing days took off again. Prompted by jamming with his girlfriend’s son, Joe Spaldin, a guitarist who had then signed up for a performing arts qualification at college to get experience of playing live and pursue a music career just as the lockdowns hit. He found that he was not allowed to perform live owing to the restrictions at the time but was still given a performing arts qualification anyway! They both decided to pull a band together so that Joe could get that experience outside of the college. Unfortunately, by the time the band were up and running Joe had to leave for University but the band continued for a while but struggled to keep a full line up and eventually split. Then came Odin’s Revenge.

Major bass influences are Geezer Butler, some quite amazing and iconic flowing bass lines that sound superb, Steve Harris, again a very busy bass player who allows his playing to fully compliment the two guitarists in Maiden. Lemmy, highly innovative with his distinct sound and style, using chords and pentatonic scales to the full and loads of distortion! Duff McKagan who produces superb bass riffs and busy fills that often lead and dominate the main riffs in Guns and Roses. Outside of music Graham enjoys binge drinking and arguing with his neighbours.
